Don’t get me wrong, I adore shooting weddings, and all the beautiful details that come with them: the flowers, the cake, the painstakingly handmade favours. But the real reason I love photography is that it allows me to capture personalities. People are endlessly fascinating to me, and I’m consistently inspired by the stories I get to tell through my work – be it the meeting of two minds and hearts in a marriage, the celebration of a personal or business achievement, or a more candid expression of self.
A portrait shoot is the perfect way to capture you at your most natural and fabulous. There are no studio lights, no teased and tonged hair and makeup (unless you decide you want it). It’s you in your own clothes, showing off your signature style in a location that’s meaningful to you.
Meet Rana
I recently did a portrait shoot with the gorgeous Rana – a PhD student from Dubai doing a research project at Oxford University. She had received a prestigious scholarship and was being featured by a magazine, so she came to me for some images to go alongside the article.
We scheduled the shoot later in the afternoon to make sure the light was at its best and most golden, and I asked Rana to bring a selection of outfits so we could get a range of looks. She chose to bring several different jackets to wear over a classic black dress, which I thought was a genius move. It was quick and easy to switch between looks, and added some lovely pops of colour, too.
Rana was a natural in front of the camera, and we had a really relaxed and fun shoot together. I’m really happy with the finished images.
Why Should You Have A Portrait Shoot?
A portrait shoot like this is perfect for you if you’re a small business owner looking for photos with personality that express who you are and what you do; a family with young children wanting to capture the beautiful chaos of your daily life; or simply someone wanting gorgeous, professional images of yourself looking your natural best. I guarantee you will feel good about yourself when you see the images, and we’ll spend a lovely couple of hours together. A portrait shoot makes a great gift for a friend or family member, and I’m so excited to be offering this service more regularly alongside my wedding photography.
If you’re interested in booking a portrait shoot, or if you have any questions about how it might work, get in touch and let’s have a chat. I’d love to make some plans with you.
