A Pre-Wedding Shoot on a Tandem Bicycle

Golden hour shot of couple riding a tandem

A pre-wedding shoot (sometimes called an engagement shoot), is a great way for you to get to know your photographer, and to get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day. I always recommend that my couples take the plunge and book a pre-wedding shoot with me a month or so before their wedding. Not only will you feel so much more relaxed on the wedding day itself, you’ll also receive a selection of beautiful, natural, professional photographs of the two of you when not dolled up to the nines in your wedding finery.

For your pre-wedding shoot, you’re in control. I don’t dictate the location – we’ll go where you like, whether in Oxfordshire, London or beyond. It might be your cosy local pub, a beauty spot near your house or somewhere altogether more far flung. (You can check out this post to see Claire and Olivier’s engagement shoot which took place in Paris. Ooh la la!). My favourite shoots are those where the couple choose a place or an activity that’s meaningful to them and their relationship, and Timm and Rachel’s pre-wedding shoot on a tandem ticks all those boxes!

The couple who cycles together…

This is a couple who love cycling. They often head out together on their bikes on dates. For Timm especially, this is more than a hobby – it’s a passion. He works at a bicycle shop, and is truly fascinated by all things on two wheels. When he found the tandem online, it was a must-have purchase! It made the perfect activity for their pre-wedding shoot, and it also made a (spruced up) guest appearance at their wedding. Timm gave it a new paint job, and hand painted his and Rachel’s name on it, with the date of their wedding.

I met Timm and Rachel at Port Meadow to the north of Oxford. This gorgeous stretch of green by the side of the river Thames made the perfect space for messing about on bikes. The shoot took place at golden hour – hands down my favourite time of day. The golden hour is the time just before sunset when the light takes on an almost syrupy quality. If you’re lucky with the weather (as this lovely couple  and their tandem were), then it makes for some really stunning images. Timm and Rachel were naturals in front of the camera, and managed to look gorgeous while concentrating on not falling off their bike, which is no mean feat!

This shoot was such fun. If you’re planning your wedding and thinking about an engagement shoot, why not get in touch? I’d love to hear about your plans.
