Lesbian brides leave Oxford town hall in a shower of confetti

As a wedding photographer, I am very lucky in that my job is to celebrate love! Every human on Earth deserves to be able to commit themselves to the one they love, and as such, photographing same sex weddings is always guaranteed to put a huge smile on my face and a happy feeling in my heart. Today I’m delighted to be sharing the intimate Oxford wedding of gorgeous brides Merryn and Dora. This lovely couple met in Brighton while studying for their PhDs, but chose Oxford for their city chic wedding to be close to Merryn’s family.

When I heard about Merryn and Dora’s plans for their wedding day, I couldn’t have been happier. They celebrated over the course of two days during official pride month, and chose some of my absolute favourite locations across Oxford.

From Rooftop To Riverside

Dora hails from Brazil, so a small number of her closest friends and family travelled to Oxford for the wedding. The couple chose the grandeur of Oxford Town Hall for their intimate wedding ceremony – I love the dark wood panelling and striking chandelier in the room they selected, and their flower girls were adorable in their mint green sequins.

After the ceremony, we moved to the golden stone of Christchurch college – an absolutely glorious spot for photographs that’s quintessential Oxford at its best. Merryn and Dora’s families are a total blast, and we had such fun during this portrait session.

Then it was time for dinner, and not just any dinner location – the roof of the Ashmolean Museum no less. The images of Merryn and Dora in front of the museum’s statement blue door are some of my favourites of the whole day, the love they feel for each other is palpable. Plus, I’m a sucker for a colourful door set in age-old stonework , anyone else have a thing for doors?

The next day it was party time, with a larger celebration for friends from all walks of life at The Cherwell Boathouse. I LOVE this riverside venue – it’s warm and welcoming and relaxed and elegant all at the same time, with fabulous food and the most beautiful location. Guests can punt along the river to make their entrance, which to my mind is the most romantic and perfectly English arrival you can imagine. Merryn and Dora were lucky with the weather, and we had blue skies and sunshine for their laughter-filled June wedding party.

Have a look through the gallery from this intimate Oxford wedding, and if you’re looking for photography that captures the joy and the details of your wedding day, why not get in touch? I’d love to chat to you.
